11.5.3 Preexisting Conditions

Group health policies operate pursuant to HIPAA regulations. These are explained in detail in the Florida-specific section.

Risks the insurance company takes when insuring people who have prior health problems are called preexisting conditions.

A preexisting illness or preexisting condition is defined as:

"Any disease or sickness that was diagnosed by a physician within a stated period prior to health insurance taking effect; including symptoms that a physician could have diagnosed and for which a prudent person would have sought treatment."
