1.8.4 Intervention by the FTC (1958)
In 1958 the Supreme Court upheld the McCarran-Ferguson Act when control was challenged by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) attempting to take control of advertising and sales literature used by the health insurance agency. The ruling expressed the determination that regulation should be kept at the state level. The FTC is responsible for enforcing federal antitrust, competition, and consumer protection laws. The FTC's mission is to protect consumers and boost competition by eliminating unfair or deceptive acts or practices.
