19.5.17 Cleft Lip and Palate

Under Florida law, if any insurance policy covers a child under age 18, coverage must be provided for treatment of cleft lip and cleft palate for the child. If such services are deemed medically necessary and prescribed by a treating physician or surgeon, insurers must cover the following services.

In addition, a health insurance company may not refuse coverage or require a higher premium solely because the person to be insured has the sickle-cell trait or solely because of their sex or marital status. This would violate the Florida rules on discrimination.
