21.2 Domestic, Foreign, and Alien Companies
Domestic
A company within the state in which it is chartered and in which its home office is located.
For example: A company's home office is located in Florida and its insurance business is done in Florida. In Florida, this company would be known as a Domestic insurer.
Foreign
A company operating in a state in which it is NOT chartered and in which its home office is NOT located.
For example: A company's home office is located in another state in the U.S. (including D.C., and other U.S. territories) and it is doing business in Florida. In Florida, this company would be known as a Foreign insurer.
Alien
A company incorporated or organized under the laws of any foreign nation, province, or territory.
For example: A company's home office is located in another country and its insurance business is conducted in Florida. In Florida, this company would be known as an Alien insurer.
