1.7.5 Other Methods of Selling Insurance
As you can well imagine, there are many ways to "get your message out there." In the old days, cold calling was the most commonly used method. Through technological and societal advances, there are many different opportunities now for us to market our products.
Direct Selling
Under the direct selling method, independent agents are not involved (salaried employee agents might be involved). The middleman is cut out, allowing the consumer to deal directly with the company. These insurers are known as direct writers or direct response insurers and typically sell their policies through vending machines, advertisements, or salaried sales representatives.Mass Marketing
Mass marketing involves exposure to large groups of people through such methods as advertisement, commercials, mass mailouts, etc.; again, the agent is not involved.
