3.10 Exclusions
Exclusions are specified hazards listed in the policy for which benefits will not be paid. If there were no exclusions, ALL policies would be outrageously expensive! Depending upon the policy, some of these risks can be covered, but for an increased premium.
- War or Military Service - The status clause excludes payment of the policy proceeds if the insured dies while in the military. The results clause excludes payment if the insured dies as a result of a declared war.
- Aviation - This exclusion restricts payment of the benefits in cases of death from aviation activities, except when the insured was a commercial airlines fare-paying passenger.
- Hazardous Occupation or Hobby - Prevents policy proceeds from being paid if the insured died as the result of his/her dangerous job or interest.
- Felony Commission - If death occurs while the insured is participating in or committing a felony, payment will be excluded.
- Suicide - Most suicide exclusions are enforced until two years after the policy's effective date.
