11.2.2 Group Health Insurance
Group health insurance is issued to groups of individuals who are covered under a master policy, just as in group life insurance we've already discussed. Unlike individual insurance, group policies are typically written on a participating basis.
Health coverage may be available to any group that is eligible for group life insurance and to specific types of groups such as the following.
- Employer/employee groups (the most common)
- Labor unions and association groups
- Debtor groups or credit health
- Trustee groups
Florida law does not limit the number or percentage of employees required to participate in order to qualify for group health insurance.
Florida law does mandate that all group health insurance contracts make coverage for alcohol and drug rehabilitation, and mental and nervous disorders available for purchase.
