1.7.3 Excess or Rejected Business

If an agent's company rejects an applicant based on the company's specific underwriting guidelines, the agent can pursue writing the business with another company for which he or she is not appointed. Doing so is referred to as excess or rejected business. Florida's Exchange of Business law permits this practice without requiring the agent to hold any additional license. The agent would be paid his/her commission under what is classified as a single case agreement.

May an agent show proposals for a company for which he or she is not appointed?
