1.7.1 Captive vs. Independent Agents

There are two main classifications of agents.

  1. Captive agents
  2. Independent agents

A captive agent (also known as a career agent) works for only one insurer and sells only that insurer's products.

An independent agent is self-governing and actually works for himself. This affords him the versatility to represent several insurers and their different insurance products.
